Welcome to the San Joaquin Valley Writing Project, Advanced Academy, Technology Bootcamp II

In this Advanced Academy, participants will learn to use two technological tools: a wiki and VoiceThread. We will use the wiki to house the syllabus, create profiles, post links to our VoiceThread projects, access important articles about technology, and create a Frequently Asked Questions resource (please see links at the end of this page).

Wikis are online spaces used for collaboration. Kathee has used wikis in her university classrooms to help students learn how to collaborate effectively on their writing. Troy Hicks's The Digital Writing Workshop is a great resource for secondary (and to some extent elementary) teachers to learn how to incorporate wikis into their classes--and wikis could also be used by teachers to collaborate on a variety of projects. Wikis are intended to be a changing, ever evolving website which reflects the development of knowledge about a particular topic.

The most important product we will create together during this Advanced Academy is a Frequently Asked Questions page on how to use a wiki. Some of these questions may be posed out of real confusion--we're working on the wiki and we don't know how to do something. Post the question on Frequently Asked Questions page. We hope that at some point one of the Bootcamp participants will be able to post an answer. You may also think of something that you might understand but that you think might be a challenge for someone else. Please feel free to post these kinds of questions, as well. We hope that by the end of the Bootcamp we'll have a great resource we can share with local teachers.

More details about the requirements of the Advanced Academy will be posted on the syllabus page.
